Inside Liddell Exhibition

2024

LOCATION

Gallery on Dowling, Dungog

As an artist deeply connected to the industrial and environmental narratives of my region, I embarked on a journey through the soon-to-be-demolished Liddell Power Station. Liddell Power Station, located near Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley was commissioned in the early 1970s and served as one of Australia's largest and longest-running coal-fired power stations until its closure in 2023.

Walking through the vast, echoing halls of Liddell, I was struck by the intricate interplay of machinery, the patina of time, and the stories embedded in every pipe and sign. These impressions inspired a series of works that blend monotype printmaking with acrylic painting, aiming to capture the essence of a structure that once powered communities and now stands as a relic of a bygone era.

Each piece in the exhibition reflects my personal response to the textures, shapes, and atmospheres encountered during the tour. Through my art, I sought to honor the legacy of Liddell, acknowledging both its role in our industrial history and the environmental conversations its closure prompts.

Inside Liddell is not just an artistic endeavor; it's a tribute to the complex relationship between industry, community, and the environment.
