Travelling down into Kakadu was like stepping into another time – ancient, powerful, and deeply moving. I walked among rock formations shaped over millennia, followed winding rivers, and traced the paths carved by nature and culture alike. The colours, textures, and silence of the landscape stayed with me long after I returned.
To capture the spirit of this place, I began mixing porcelain clay and white glue into my paint – allowing the texture to mirror the earthiness and complexity of the terrain. Each work is layered and grounded, a tactile response to the sandstone escarpments, ochre cliffs, and vast open skies of Kakadu.
Working in acrylic on canvas and monotype, this series has been a joy to create – an attempt to honour and record the enduring presence of this magnificent country.
