Lino & Lace Exhibition
2015
LOCATION
Gallery 139, Newcastle
This body of work is inspired by the quiet resilience and beauty of Miss Porter’s House – the only National Trust building in Newcastle. Nestled on King Street, this modest 19th-century terrace stands in stark contrast to the modern glass and concrete that surrounds it. It once belonged to two sisters, whose lives are still whispered through the worn lino, the delicate lace, and the layered memories they left behind.
As an artist, I was drawn to the stillness of this space. To its resistance to time. To the traces of domestic life that linger long after the world outside has moved on. My works –monotypes and acrylics on canvas – seek to honour that intimacy, that fragility, and that quiet strength. They are fragments of observation and feeling, drawn from creaking floorboards, faded florals, and the way light moves through lace curtains.
I invite you to step into this echo of the past with me. To pause, to look closer, and perhaps to feel what remains.
